According to The Old Famer's Almanac, in the U.S. Mother's Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday in May. This is why the date changes year-to-year.

Mother's Day is all about letting your mom know how much you appreciate her, so thoughtful gift giving is important. The most common way to do this is by getting her a card and letting her know how much she means to you in words.

Mother’s Day is the third-largest card-sending holiday in the United States, with 113 million cards exchanged annually, according to Hallmark.

Buying her a bouquet of her favorite flowers, taking her out to eat at her favorite restaurant and spending time with her are also some other common ways people celebrate Mother's Day.

Mother's Day is also the second most popular holiday for gift-giving, following Christmas.
